Department History

In 1965, to train qualified specialists in foreign languages, Karshi State Pedagogical Institute began admitting students to English and German philology programs. To ensure high-quality education and improve the competency of foreign language teachers in the southern region of Uzbekistan, the Department of Foreign Languages (English and German) was established in 1967. From 1967 to 1992, the department was headed by Associate Professor Bahodir Samadov, a Candidate of Philological Sciences. In 1992, the Department of English Language and Literature was established and was led by several distinguished scholars: Bobonazar O‘ralov (1992-1993), Yo‘ldosh Temirov (1993-1995), Ro‘zi Elboboyevich Qiyomov (1995-2013). Subsequent department heads included S. Egamberdiyev, A. Aliqulov, A. Nazarov, and P. Qurbonov. In 2018, the Department of Linguistics split from the Department of English Language and Literature, with Dr. M. Daniyeva (PhD) appointed as the first Head of the Department. From 2020 to 2025 Omonova M.K. is a Head of the Chair of Linguistics. From 2020 to 2025, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology (PhD), Associate Professor Omonova M.K. was the head of Head of the Chair of Linguistics.
