Department History

"The department trains specialists in the field of 5120100 – Philology and Language Teaching (French), and since the 2021-2022 academic year, in the field of 60230100 – Philology and Language Teaching (French). In the 2021-2022 academic year, a master's program was also introduced. The French language section began its activities at Karshi State University in the 2001-2002 academic year. In February 2014, it was reorganized into the Department of French Language and Literature under the leadership of Senior Lecturer G. Koshaeva. Since 2019, the head of the department has been Associate Professor A. Zoirova. The department has 3 Doctors of Science, Professors, 3 PhD holders, Associate Professors, and 2 Assistant Lecturers. The department's scientific potential is 60%. The faculty members of the department continuously work on improving their scientific and professional qualifications. Over the years, they have participated in prestigious international competitions and grants, allowing them to complete internships at leading foreign universities. Specifically: • G. Koshaeva completed an internship at Shanghai University (China) and the Mugelze Educational Center (Germany). • K. Baratova interned at Shanghai University (China). • T. Shermatova, H. Juraqobilova, and H. Hamzaev completed internships at the IMEF Institute in France. • A. Zoirova has completed training at various institutions over the years, including the La Rochelle CEMEA Training Center (France), the Besançon CLA Training Center (France), Shenyang Pedagogical University (China), the Institut de Touraine (France), and Côte d’Azur University (France)."
"The department’s professors and lecturers have published several textbooks and study guides, including: • ""French Language"" for first-year academic lyceum students by Associate Professor A. Zoirova and F. Yarmanov, • ""Grammaire française"" (French Grammar) as a study guide, • ""Méthode de français"" for undergraduate students, • ""Pratique phonétique française"" (French Phonetic Practice), ""Grammaire pratique: temps et mode"" (Practical Grammar: Tenses and Moods), and ""Translation Theory and Practice"" by senior lecturer H. Juraqobilova, • ""Production orale et écrite"" (Oral and Written Production) by lecturer H. Hamzaev. In collaboration with the Department of French Language and Literature at Karshi State University, the department organized a national scientific conference on ""Current Issues in Philology"" in line with the Presidential Decree PQ-1875 on improving foreign language teaching. The conference proceedings were published in six volumes. On January 7, 2023, A. Zoirova successfully defended her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) dissertation in philological sciences at the Scientific Council for the Award of Academic Degrees under Bukhara State University. The dissertation was titled ""Gynocritical Research on the Translation of Works by French Feminist Writers (Based on the Works of George Sand and Germaine de Staël)"" within the specialty 10.00.06 ""Comparative Literary Studies, Comparative Linguistics, and Translation Studies."" As a result, she was awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Philological Sciences. Between 2019 and 2025, the department’s faculty members published over 100 scientific articles and theses, as well as five textbooks and five study guides. On April 6, 2024, the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan awarded A. Zoirova the academic title of Associate Professor in the specialty ""Comparative Literary Studies, Comparative Linguistics, and Translation Studies,"" based on the recommendation of the Academic Council of Karshi State University."
